Maurice’s House
at Château de la Ruche
sleeps 4
Tucked in amongst the trees, by the lake and wild flower meadow and next to the Château potager, is Maurice’s House – one of the original outbuildings of the estate. Once home to a colourful character called Maurice, we have lovingly restored this beautiful old carriage house and turned it into a carefully styled, but comfortable gîte.
Sweep up our tree lined drive way and through the gates into your own private garden, with dedicated parking space. Walk up the garden path and into the boot room with its original tommette tiled floor that leads you into the large, fully-equipped farmhouse kitchen. Packed with original features and a big antique table for fabulous feasts, the kitchen is flooded with light from the French doors which lead back out into your private garden, with its terrace, trees and flowers.
Climb the handmade staircase into the grenier where you’ll find a large, light and airy sitting room with full height ceilings, exposed oak beams and views over the lake and gardens. It’s furnished with carefully chosen antiques and flea market finds and there are lots of cosy armchairs and two big comfy sofas.
There are two large and beautiful en-suite bedrooms, one at each end of the sitting room. Both have views over the lake towards the château and window seats that allow you to sit in comfort and daydream for as long as you like.
Each bedroom has a king-sized bed that can be converted into two single beds on request – perfect if you’re travelling as a family or as a group of friends. The en-suite bathrooms are beautifully appointed with rainfall showers, antique mirrors, and in one, a traditional roll top bath.
We have preserved as many original features as possible, reusing materials and incorporating the old with the new. Imagine old oak beams, handmade floor tiles, and reclaimed furniture mixed with all the modern comforts.
It’s the perfect place to spend a quiet holiday in the French countryside, with the grounds, parkland and woodland of the château available for you to explore too.
